April 9 Joint TAC Meeting
Background & Staff Recommendation

The Watershed Council has created a comprehensive list of projects and programs (called the Master Archive of Projects and Programs, or MAPP) to be included in the Ventura River Watershed Management Plan. This Tuesday, April 9, a joint Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting will be held to discuss approaches to ranking or prioritizing the projects and programs on that list.

I’ve prepared a memo that provides background and a recommended approach to project/program ranking. The meeting will be most productive if you read and consider this memo in advance. This memo also serves as the agenda, as the meeting is single-focused.

I’ve also played with applying the ranking scheme to at least some of our projects in the MAPP spreadsheet. Please also take a look at this latest version of the MAPP, specifically columns DM (Project Proponent) and DN (Project Rank). I took a guess at who the project proponent might be for some of our projects, and also took a stab at assigning a project rank – just to see how the proposed ranking scheme works. You can use row 5 to filter the list by the projects I assigned to your organization (or by any of the other columns). Please make note of things you’d change, questions and any ideas you may have. We do need to know fairly soon which projects have committed project proponents (meaning you are willing to take on the project, and/or be the grant applicant or co-applicant), so the sooner you clarify that with me for your organization the better. The list of IRWMP factors in the spreadsheet is still a work in progress, so don’t spend much time on that.

The Joint TAC meeting is on Tuesday, April 9, from 1:30 – 3:30 pm in the Santa Cruz Room of Ventura City Hall, 501 Poli Street, Ventura. I hope to see you there.

April 25, Next Council Meeting
This is a reminder that the next meeting of the full Watershed Council will be on Thursday, April 25. This will be an evening meeting, from 6:00 – 8:30 pm, and will be held at the Oak View Community Center, 18 Valley Road, Oak View.

It Could be Worse
Here’s a photo I took recently (from the bus) of a typical Egyptian stream. Yikes!
