Oct. 7 Evening Watershed Council Meeting.
Here’s a reminder that the Ventura River Watershed Council will meet tomorrow, October 7, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:30 pm, at the Oak View Community Center, 18 Valley Road, Oak View. Interested community members are encouraged to attend.

We will be going over some of key sections of the watershed management plan— Findings, Campaigns, and the Project & Program List—which are out now in final draft form on the Council’s website.

We’ll get an overview on the historic groundwater bills signed by the Governor on September 16, 2014. These bills include a requirement that groundwater “sustainability plans” be developed for many basins in California, including basins in our watershed.

And representatives from local water districts will discuss their current water conservation and water use efficiency programs.

Here is the agenda.

Oct. 9 Ojai Valley Sanitary District Wastewater Reuse Study – Kickoff Meeting
Ventura Water (City of Ventura) is hosting a Kickoff Stakeholder Meeting for their Ojai Valley Sanitary District (OVSD) Reuse Study. The meeting will be held on October 9th, from 8-10 am in the Assembly Room at the City’s Sanjon Maintenance Yard, located at 336 Sanjon Road, Ventura. All interested parties are invited to attend.

Background:
Ventura Water supplies raw water (i.e. surface water) for landscape irrigation to a few users near the Ojai Valley Sanitary District (OVSD) 1.7 MGD Wastewater Treatment Plant located off of N. Ventura Avenue on City property adjacent to the City’s Avenue Treatment Plant. Currently OVSD discharges all of its tertiary treated municipal effluent into the Ventura River. Per the City’s lease agreement, Ventura Water is entitled to the effluent. Ventura Water has identified four irrigation customers that are currently provided potable or raw water that could be served by recycled water from OVSD.

Ventura Water desires to convert its raw water pipeline to supply recycled water from OVSD to these customers and potential future customers. However, prior to completing the State required Title 22 Engineering Report to provide OVSD recycled water, several concerns need to be addressed through a feasibility analysis. Specifically, whether and to what extent recycled water may be utilized under current policies and regulatory restrictions. Utilizing the OVSD effluent to offset water demands brings the City one step closer towards utilizing the effluent for greater reuse opportunities.
