Today 1:30pm Time Certain Ventura County Board of Supervisors Item on Wildlife Movement Corridors
Today at 1:30pm the Ventura County Board of Supervisors will review options for habitat connectivity and wildlife movement corridors within non-coastal unincorporated ares of Ventura County including the Ventura River. You can find the Protected Resource Areas and Wildlife Corridors Map here. The Board will provide direction on the preferred regulatory option for protection of habitat connectivity and wildlife movement corridors.
Staff is asking the Board of Supervisors to consider the following options:
Option 1 – Adoption of Resource Protection Map and Overlay Zone Map with Comprehensive Set of Policies and Standards
Option 2 – Adoption of Resource Protection Map and Overlay Zone Map with Limited Set of Policies and Standards
Option 3 – Adoption of Resource Protection Map and Minimal Set of Policies and Standards

January 26 Council Meeting
The next meeting of the Watershed Council will be this Thursday, January 26th from 11am to 1:30pm, at the Bell Arts Factory. Please feel free to bring your lunch to the meeting. We will get a special presentation on the progress of giant reed removal and restoration efforts in the watershed, an update on the septic special study, and much more.
We will also get an update from the Leadership Executive Committee meeting and review proposed changes to our Charter. You can review our current Charter on our website here and view the proposed changes to the Charter here.

Sustainable Water Lecture at UCSB Saturday January 28
Join us on Saturday, January 28, 2017 for the second annual Darcy Aston Memorial Sustainable Water Lecture and Potluck to be held at UCSB, in Bren 1414, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
This year’s lecture is titled – Inspiring Innovations in Watershed Protection; From Grassroots to Policy to Practice and will feature keynote speaker Martha Davis, who for years led the Mono Lake Committee efforts to restore Mono Lake and now serves as the Executive Manager of Policy Development at the Inland Empire Utilities Agency. Following the keynote speaker, there will be a panel consisting of Art Ludwig (Oasis Design, George Johnson (City of Santa Barbara Creeks Division) and Cora Kammeyer (E.S. Graduate and Bren Masters Candidate). Please see the flyer for more details.
The annual free lecture and community gathering is supported by the Darcy Aston Memorial Lecture Series Fund in connection with UC Santa Barbara and was created in honor of Darcy Aston (ES Graduate,1981). The lecture series is intended to engage the general public, local water experts, students and faculty in a dialogue about local water issues and inspire participation in finding solutions to our local challenges. The lectures focus on innovative approaches to the complex issues of water supply and water quality and watershed protection.

Comment Period Still Open: Ojai Basin Analysis of Basin Conditions
The Ojai Basin Groundwater Management Agency alternative to a Groundwater Sustainability Plan in now available for review and comment on the State Department of Water Resources website http://sgma.water.ca.gov/
One Comment has been submitted and can be viewed in the DWR website. Comments must be submitted to the state online using the SGMA Portal within 60 days of the date the alternative was submitted.
Free Horse and Livestock Services Available
The Ventura County Resource Conservation District (VCRCD) has been awarded grant funds to assist horse and intensive livestock facility owners/operators in meeting water quality regulations approaching the Ventura River Watershed in 2018.
Horse and Livestock owners/operators are invited to take advantage of VCRCD’s FREE services: property visits, site-specific nutrient management plan development, and cost-share opportunities for Best Management Practices (BMP) installation. The next Horse and Livestock Watershed Alliance (HLWA) meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 8, 2017 in Kent Hall at the Help of Ojai, 111 W Santa Ana St, Ojai, CA, 93023 from 5:30-7:30pm. The agenda will cover local water quality issues, anticipated regulations, BMP education, and VCRCD’s services.
